Publishing Design
For my senior thesis project at Drexel University, I chose to create an in-depth, visually driven book that explores the art of makeup prosthetics and special effects makeup. This project represents the culmination of my academic journey and personal passion, combining extensive research with hands-on creative work.
The book delves into the rich history of special FX makeup, profiles influential and pioneering artists in the field, and breaks down the technical processes involved in crafting prosthetic and makeup effects. Additionally, it features my own artistic exploration through original photographs, sculptural designs, and applied makeup looks that I conceptualized, designed, and executed myself. This project not only reflects my dedication to the craft but also serves as a tribute to the artistry and innovation that define the world of special effects makeup.
The Process
Below is an overview of the process behind developing the book’s concept and creating its content.
Most of the inspiration for this project came from the work of special effects artists, and the visual connection between human anatomy, nature, and the science fiction genre. These are all topics that I have always drawn inspiration from when it comes to my personal artwork, but also that I find has connection with what I have seen from several special effect designs for film. Specifically pertaining to Alien films, The Thing, and the Hellraiser franchise. This moodboard, that I put together, is a collection of these ideas.
The assets I created to use throughout the book are interpretive designs, which I created using drawings of mine, and edited photography.
Photography
All photographs below were taken by me, and are all looks that were designed, and applied by me, and used as original content in the book.
Flesh: Spread Mockups
These mockups are arranged in the order they appear throughout the book, from beginning to end.

Creatures of Flesh
“Creatures of Flesh” is a companion piece to my original book, “Flesh.” Designed as a smaller sequel, it highlights the unique features of the models featured in the first volume and offers a more intimate, detailed look at the photographs behind each special effects makeup look.

Wedding Invitation Design
For this project I collaborated with a couple to design their wedding invitations, working closely to capture their desired aesthetic and follow a specific color palette. From initial concept development to the final design, I translated their vision into a cohesive, elegant invitation that reflected the clients’ style. The process involved clear communication, multiple feedback rounds, and attention to detail to ensure the final product matched needs and expectations.
